בימים האחרונים טיבוע לא רע עם 5 עד 154 ציפורים בבוקר (תלוי רוח). הלכידה היא בעיקר של אדומי חזה יחד עם לא מעט גדרונים וקצת עלוויות אפורות וחורף בצירוף מגוון לא רע של מינים נלווים. ביניהם הציפורים הבאות:
In the last few days some nice ringings with 5 to 154 birds per day (all depends on the wind). We ring mainly Robins Erithacus rubecula but also some Wrens Troglodaytes troglodaytes and some Willow Warblers phylloscopus trochilus + Chiffchaffs Phylloscopus collybita with other species:

באותו בוקר טיבענו קיכלי לבן גבה יחסית פשוט לגיול. אני חוששת שקיכלים רבים אינם פשוטים, בייחוד אם אין גבול חילוף ברור בסוככות הגדולות והזנב בטווח הביניים מבחינת רוחב ומידת חידוד. גם לצעירים נוצות באיכות גבוהה (צפופות ומבריקות) דבר שמקשה על הגיול. לכן, לטעמי, חשוב מאוד התבונן היטב בפרטים קלים לזיהוי וללמוד היטב את דגם השלישוניות, הסוככות למיניהן והזנב. לא מעט פרטים שנראים בוגרים במבט ראשון מתבררים כפרטים צעירים בבדיקה מקיפה יותר וממרום ניסיונם של כמה מהחבר'ה פה.
We also had a 2nd year Redwing Turdus iliacus קיכלי לבן גבה that day. Some of these birds are very difficult to age and I find it necessary to learn as much as possible the pattern of the easier birds (GC, PC, Tert., tail etc.) to be able differ and tell the age of the complicated ones (in which it's not possible to see a clear moult limit in GC and the tail is not defined either).

ב-25 במאי הייתה לנו לכידה חוזרת של זרזיר- ב-2010 טובע זרזיר זכר ביער מצפון לתחנת הטיבוע כחלק ממחקר בתיבות קינון. אותו זרזיר נלכד שוב, הפעם בתחנת הטיבוע, השבוע. בתחילת השבוע נלכד זכר צעיר וכבר אז בחנו את עניין הגיול שלהם (ע"פ הסוונסון הירוק) והתברר שאחד הסימנים השימושיים הוא אורך הנוצות בחזה. לפרט הצעיר היו נוצות חזה שכולן קצרות מ-120 מ"מ. לפרט הבוגר שלכדנו רוב נוצות החזה היו מעל 20 (23-25) ואפילו ניתן לראות זאת בתמונה. ניתן לראות כי הוא זכר גם הודות לבסיס המקור הכחול אפור (לנקבה ורוד צהבבהב).
On the 25th we had a nice recovery of a Starling Sturnus vulgaris זרזיר מצוי from 2010. It was ringed in the forest, about two kilometers to the north, as a part of a research done with nest-boxes. Now, we could clearly see the feathers on the chest were longer than 20mm (23-25) as mentioned in the Green Bible (Svensson) for adult males. For sexing notice the blue-grayish colour at the base of the bill showing us it's a male (females have pink to yellowish colour).

On the 26 a chilly morning forced many birds to make a stopover at Ottenby. They probably migrated from warmer areas but met cold front when passing through our area and landed in our garden. We ringed 154 birds that day, many of them having high fat scores.
We served the hungry birds the best food we could think of- hundreds (or more) Earthworms that came out of the ground after some rain. These worms were huge and many were as long as my feet-which is not too vg but still... it's impressive to see so long worms.

When we made the third or forth round of the day
Christopher heard a little flock of Common Redpolls Carduelis
flammea תפוחית שחורת סנטר. All my attempts to relocate them failed. On the next round I
tried to focous only the finding of this dream-birds but upsettingly, couldn't
see them. All of a sudden I heard "Yael, stop looking for Redpolles! It's
here!!" and, indeed, there was an amazingly cute redpoll in Christopher's
hand (in less than a millisecond it moved to my shaking hands). For a very long
time I wanted to see this species. Nevertheless, have it in hand. Others
knowledge (combined with my catching up after short reading in Svensson's green
bible) showed it's an adult female, flammea subspecies; mainly
according to bright coloration and long wing-76mm.
After a while we were lucky to have another female
(I was dangerously excited mean while the others were "happyish" and
Christopher was bored out of it). It was more obvious flammea with
even brighter colors (pics are from second bird, which was much more
cooperative and maybe landed in the trap only for I'll have better pics to
upload).  |

בִרווזים- שלישייה ייחודית Duck tales-Intresting Threesome
במשך יומיים וחצי היינו עדים למחזה משעשע עד הזוי- שלישיית ברווזים. אמנם, יש שלישיות בעולם, אך זו מן המוזרות ביותר אם לא המוזרה שיותר שפגשתי: ברכיה-זכר, ברכיה-נקבה ושרשיר-זכר שהסתובבו להם יחד בסמוך לתחנת הטיבוע. הם אכלו יחד, נחו יחד, עפו יחד ונראו שלווים למדי בשילוב הזה. לפחות עד שהמצלמות נשלפו.. הם פשוט סירבו להצטלם יחד! הדבר היחיד שהצלחתי לתעד הוא הצילום הנ"ל (הקטנצ'יק באמצע הוא השרשיר, הנקבה מלפנים והברכיה הזכר מאחור). מידי פעם הופרה השלווה, כאשר לשרשיר נמאס לחלוק את הברכיונת שלו עם זכר מוזר שהטריד אותם- הברכיה והוא היה מנסה לגרשו בקרקורים וזינוקים אלימים. לאחר יומיים וחצי לערך, לא הצלחנו לאתר אותם יותר. אולי המשיכו לנדוד צפונה, לאתר בו לא יטרידו אותם מבטים סקרנים של מטבעים משועממים ואולי, פשוט נמאס לשרשיר-שחשב-שהוא-ברכיה לחלוק את הנקבה שלו והוא ברח איתה הרחק. או... אולי להיפך?
For two and a half days we were witnessing a very interesting duck-threesome: A male Mallard, A female Mallard and a male Teal . They were flying together, resting together, eating together, but never likely to have good pics together (maybe other ducks will not accept them so they had to hide it? mmm... I forgot they are not us, it's happening only with judicial people).The only pic I have with the one above: the Female is leading, the tiny duck is the Teal and at the end there is the male Mallard. Most of the time they seemed to be happy with their special family but from time to time the Teal was trying to drive the male Mallard away. Eventually, we can't see them here anymore. But we'll probably never know if this lovely threesome flew away to more quiet place or if the male Teal-who-thinks-he-is-a-Mallard was unhappy to share his female with the crazy Mallard-who-is-actually-a-Mallard and ran away with her? Or... maybe the other way?
מצפרים מראש מעבדת הברווזים.
כ-2.5 ק"מ מצפון לתחנת הטיבוע ישנה מלכודת ללכידת ברווזים ותחנת מחקר מותאמת. באביב לכידת הברווזים אינה בשיאה אך מידי שבוע יש כמה ברווזים שנלכדים (בעיקר ברכיות וטדורנות, עד כה). באזור יש לגונה קטנה ובה ציפורים רבות. מאחר ומעל למים יש אזור מטושטש, כתוצאה מהפרשי טמפרטורה בין המים לאוויר, המקום הכי טוב לתצפית הוא הגג של המלכודת. באותו היום, ה-20 במאי בין היתר, נצפו מהגג:

When ringing ducks (about 2.5 km to the north-east) we can also do some birding around. There is a nice view to a little lagoon next to the trap. From time to time the bluerr above the water is too havy and then, the best way to watch the birds is from the roof of the lab. Highlights from the 20th roof-birding:

ב-20 במאי זכיתי לראות לראשונה פרפרים באוטנבי! שמחה רבה, אביב הגיע (ממש הרבה מידי אחרי פסח). לימונית אירופית נראתה במלכודת המערבית ונלכדה באמצעות רשת פרפרים לצורך התבוננות מעמיקה יותר (כי החבר'ה ידעו רק את השם בשוודית מה שלא הכי עזר לי לזהות...).
On the 20th I saw my first butterflies at Ottenby! means-spring is here!!
we had one Common Brimstone Gonepteryx rahmni לימונית אירופית flying in the western trap. With a butterflies-net we caught it for better examination.

לשמחתי הרבה יש פה גם מין יפה יותר של פרפרים- נמפית החרמון (ממליצה לפתוח מגדיר/גוגל, פרפר מעלף!!!) ומאז ראיתי אותם פה לא מעט.
I also saw two extremely beautiful Small Tortoiseshell Aglais urticae נמפית החרמון.

הם פשוט מעריצים את השמש! לא בצורה דתית יותר מידי, אבל כמעט. הם כל כך מתגעגעים אליה שהם מוכנים להשתזף בשנייה שיש יום שמשי, לא תלות בעוצמת הרוח הקרה שנושבת. כך הגעתי למצב בו אני מצלמת את מיקאלה ומישה משתזפים בביגוד מלא- כולל מעילים ונעליים. מוזר למדי לחובבת אילת שכמוני.
They admire the sun! Not in a religius way, well.. almost. Anyway, on the 20th the sun was shining but it was a little windy. It didn't stop Mikaela and Micha from having a sunbath, when fully covered with coats and everything.
