Ottenby- 26-30.4.2013- אוטנבי
ה-26.4, יום מוצלח של טיבוע הסתיים. בוקר ערפילי ומוצלח למדי כפי שכבר סיפרתי לכם.. בדיקה של מלכודת הברווזים לא הניבה תוצאות מיוחדות וסך הכל, ניצלתי היטב את הזמן בספרייה הנפלאה שיש פה. קפצתי למטבח לבדוק בשלומם של שאר המטבעים וכשפניתי לחזור לספרייה שמעתי קריאה רמה וברורה: #$%*!($@#!!!!! כרגיל, הדברים המגניבים תמיד נאמרים בשוודית נרגשת ואני, שמורגלת לא להבין כלום אך לתפוס משקפת ולזנק, מיהרתי לעבר החלון.
ממש מחוץ לחלון ניתן היה לראות זוג ברבורים מתקוטטים ומתכסחים באלימות שלא תתואר כמה עשרות מטרים מאיתנו, בתוך השטח הסגור.
ברור ראשון על ברבור שני, ברבור שני על ברבור ראשון וחוזר חלילה.. עד שאחד תפס את ראשו של השני והכניסו לתוך שלולית. התחתון נאבק, ועוד קצת, פתאום הוא פחות נאבק.. ואז נתן זינוק בכוחות אחרונים והצליח לברוח עוד מטר לפני שראשו נדחף שוב לתוך שלולית. בשלב הזה, אי סדר שורר בתוך תחנת הטיבוע, הדעות חלוקות- האם עלינו להתערב? ומה בכלל חלקנו בעולם? ובכן, אין זמן להתפלספויות מיותרות, הברבור בבירור לא נושם כבר מעל לנצח (אין לי שום מושג כמה זמן עבר, עמכם הסליחה)
אז מה עושים?! השטח סגור אבל בהחלטה מהירה של כריסטופר יש אישור, נכנסים ומפרידים, מספיק ברבורים מתים גם ככה מידי שנה. תוך עשיריות שנייה היינו שנינו בתוך השטח הסגור, עומדים ליד ברבור מצ'וקמק שספק רב אם הוא חי בכלל והברבור השני כבר רחוק (לא ברור מה קרה בשלבים של נעילת נעליים או פתיחת השער, נראה שפשוט הצלחנו באורח פלאי לדלג עליהם). בעודנו מתנשפים ומתנשמים הצלחנו להבין כי הברבור, כמעט כמונו, משתנק וזז! הרמתי את הצ'יקמוק המרהיב והרטוב הזה בידי, כריסטופר דאג לראש ונשאנו אותו חזרה לשטח תחנת הטיבוע. שם, בחולצה ספוגה, ידיים מלאות בברבור וחיוך מאוזן לאוזן הבחנו שיש לו טבעת!
On
the 26st, after a very nice morning, nothing special in the duck-trap and
having not so good weather for birding- I sat in the lovely library of Ottenby.
I
went to check how things are going in the kitchen (=snack some food) and was on
my way back when suddenly I heard loud call: $%^@%^^!@#!!!!!!!
As
usual, when the most exciting things are seen, you can here an excited call in
Swedish which means nothing to me but giving very good alarm. I grabbed my
binoc ready for any upcoming bird and jumped few meters towards the window
(where were those skills back in sport lessons??) just to observe, few tens of
meters away, two male Mute Swans fighting. One on top of the other, other on
top of the one, complete mess... rolling and calling till ones head was pushed
into a puddle. At the beginning it tried to move but the other didn't move off its
back and held its head strongly. In last powers it managed to escape only to be
pushed into the next puddle.
At
this time there was a complete mess at the station- What should we do? What is role
are we assigning in this universe? No time for all of that! The swan is clearly
not able to breath for who knows how long! Quick decision by Christopher- we go
in the closed area, enough Swans are dieing anyway (by man-made reasons). In no
time we were both a meter from the Swan, breathing heavily, while the other was
flying away.
We
were sure we missed in few seconds when, surprisingly, we could notice it is
putting great effort in starting to breath. It was alive!!! I grabbed-hugged
it, still hardly getting enough oxygen for basic brain function (both of us).
We
went back to the station with soaking shirt, smiling as wide as our faces could
get, when I hug it and Christopher is holding the exhausted Swans head. By then
we already noticed the ring on its leg.

בדיקה במאגר הנתונים העלתה שמדובר בברבור שטובע בשנת 2007, פה באוטנבי, וכבר אז זוהה כפרט בן לפחות 3 שנים (כלומר, עכשיו הוא לפחות בן 9 שנים). לקראת ערב שיחררנו אותו וזכינו לראותו מסתובב באותו אזור עד הבוקר שאחרי.. (לא בטריטוריה של הזכר התוקף כמובן).
After
it was safely put to recover in a non-used duck-trap we checked for its ring
number: It was ringed here in 2007, as adult means at least three years old. F ew minutes later the swan, still exhausted, seemed to care only about its beautiful
appearance. It was sorting its feathers for about an hour! After few more hours
of recovering we released this incredible bird back to the wild.
We
were able to locate it for the next 20 hours or so, chasing some Canada Gees
from time to time, as if it never learned any lesson about violence.

Conclusion: there is nothing fare in our world- the looser got all the hugs and I even got a nice kiss when Christopher loosed his hold and the Swan exploit it..
בבוקר שאחרי, הכל נראה כמעט משעמם אבל בכל זאת נלכדו כמה ציפורים נחמדות. הכמויות אינן מעודדות ונראה שהציפורים פשוט החליטו לוותר על הנדידה והקינון השנה (ספויילר- לא, זה בסדר, הן ממשיכות לטפטף ולהתגבר פשוט לא בטירוף הרצוי).

On the next morning everything seemd dull after the drama yesterday.
But, we still had some nice birds. It is as if the birds just took a smart decision this year- cancel migration and breeding season due to a too ling winter (Spoiler- not. They are seen more and more, just not in the usual quantities)

אחרי היער משתרעת "סוואנת אוטנבי" (לחה ונקראת בשוודית Schäferi) ובה אלפי חופזים זהובים, קיוויות מצוייצות מקננות וחרמשונים גדולים נצפים בקביעות.
English is not needed.. just imagine a "normal" earopean forest!

בנוסף, נמצא עץ עטלפים באמצע היער. עתה, בסיוע ערן לוין היקר (שתמיד נכון לעזור), כבר ידוע לי כי מדובר בעטלפון. Pipistrellus pipistrellus / nathusii למדקדקים. העטלפונים הללו יושבים מחוץ לחור בעץ ועפים מעל לשבילים, בעיקר, בעודם מחפשים אחר חרקים בשעות הצהרים המאוחרות.
אורכם אינו עולה על 5 ס"מ ומשקלם עד 9 גרם (ע"פ הספרות כמובן).
In the forest Micha and I located a tree with some bats in. They hang out of their hole also in mid-day and are also hunting at this part of the day. They are either Pipistrellus pipistrellus or Pipistrellus nathusii. It means their length is up to 5 cm and weight up to 9 grams (according to the guide to the mammals we have here).

באחד הימים, בפרץ של עצלנות, קפצנו לאכול במסעדה הסמוכה (אולי עשרים מטרים מהמגורים). כשחזרנו התברר שבדרך לאוכל היו מי שראו נחש שנקרא פה פשוט "סנוק". מדובר בנחש שחובב בתי גידול לחים והוא ניזון בעיקר מדו-חיים ודגים או כל דבר קטן וחי אחר בסביבתו. בכל אופן, מיקאלה ואני הלכנו לחפשו. לפתע, על השביל למלכודת המזרחית, הצלחנו לראות שניים יחד! למרות שקפאנו במקום, הנחשים כבר נבהלו והחלו במנוסה. אז גם התברר כי השניים נתפסו בעיצומה של הזדווגות באמצע הדרך. לצערי, עקב צילום בפלאפון (פעם אחרונה שאני הולכת לאכול צהרים בלי מצלמה!) כתוצאה מניסיון להימנע מהפחדת יתר ושאר תירוצים, התמונות לא מרהיבות אבל מגניבות.
On the other day we went to eat at the restaurant here, near the lighthouse. When we finished and came back to the station, I heard some people have seen "Snok" just short before we went to eat. So, Mikaela and I wend to look if we can relocate it. All of a sudden, we saw two of them right on the trail to the eastern trap- Mating! we stood still but it was already too late, they started running away and the outcome- a not so good yet, very cool pic of mating Grass snakes Natrix natrix whice were taken with my cell-phone (last time ever lunching without my camera I swear).
כמה ימים לאחר מכן מצאנו, דפנה ואני, שלושה נחשים כאלו ביער והצלחתי לצלם תמונה מעט יותר מוצלחת.
Few days later Dafne and I saw three of them in the forest so I was able to take better pics without interrupting in the middle of the mating act.

לפני כשבועיים שלושה נולד בשטח תחנת הטיבוע "לנצ'" (ארוחת צהריים). הוא נצפה כשהוא מטייל להנאתו ולבדו בכל רחבי השטח ועל אף שמו, טרם נראו כוונות לאוכלו. למעשה, העניינים פה יותר בכיוון של ציווחוחי חיבה בכל פעם שמי מחברי הצוות מאתרו מחדש.
About two to three weeks ago Lunch was born. In this week we were watching almost every step of it with delight, wearing silly faces. Although it's name it seems to enjoy lots of love and protection. Since vegetarian food is preferred here, it's quite safe.
