Ócsa is one of the older ringing-stations in Hungary. The ringing had started there in 1983 and had developed a lot since then. Nowadays there are about 100 open nets every summer and autumn day. The head of the station is dr. Tibor Csörgo and every week there is a different ringer and the stuff in changing frequently (according to people's free time). Thanks to a successful cooperation with the university in Budapest lots of students are coming daily to conduct scientific research in the camp (working not only with the birds but also with other subjects).

The species variation is pretty wide thanks to nice variety of habitats: high and medium forests, bushes (Black Sambuc Sambucus nigra and raspberry for example), reeds along water canals and so on. In addition to all the more usual reed-warblers (acrocephalus species) we ringed pretty many sylviidae-Warbler-species, Nightingales, Flycatchers, Woodpeckers etc.

תחנת הטיבוע אוצ'ה היא מהוותיקות בהונגריה. הטיבוע החל בה בשנת 1983 והתפתח מאז ללא הפסקה. כיום, ישנן במקום כ-100 רשתות הנפתחות כמעט מידי יום קיץ או סתיו (מידי פעם פותחים מעט פחות, הכל תלוי בגודל הצוות הנוכח במקום). המקום מנוהל על ידי ד"ר טיבור צ'ורגו ומידי שבוע משתנה הצוות במקום ואף המטבע הוא מתנדב אחר מידי שבוע. הודות להשתייכותו של טיבור לאוניברסיטה בבודפשט הרבה סטודנטים פוקדים את המקום מידי יום לצורך ביצוע מחקרים שונים ומשונים (ממש לא רק בתחום הצפרות).

מגוון המינים רחב למדי הודות למגוון רחב של בתי גידול בהם פרושות הרשתות: יער גבוה ויער צעיר בשבי התפתחות מוקדמים יותר, שיחים שונים (בדגש על סמבוק שחור ופטל), חישת קנים לאורך תעלות מים וכו'. נוסף על מגוון הקניות המוכר מהתחנות הקודמות נלכדו אי אלו מיני סבכיים, זמירים, חטפיות, נקרים וכדומה. מינים המאפיינים את היער ולא את שולי האגמים והביצות.

The ringing station used to be placed in these old huts and birding tower back in the 80's- 90's but it is not longer relevant due to building a huge beautiful house few tens of meters away. In this house ringers might get confused and think they are in a five-star hotel and not in a ringing station. It is nice to see the old huts when walking around to check the nets.

בעבר (שנות ה-80-90) תחנת הטיבוע הייתה ממוקמת בבקתות נמוכות שחציין בתוך האדמה ולצידן מגדל תצפית, בסמוך לתחנת הטיבוע הנוכחית. לעומת זאת, כיום, תחנת הטיבוע ממקומת בתוך מבנה חדיש, בן ארבע שנים בלבד, בו עלול מטבע מן השורה להתבלבל ולחשוב שנקלע בטעות למלון חמישה כוכבים הסמוך לתחנת טיבוע. הייתה זו חוויה חדשה ומוזרה ביותר עבורי. בכל אופן, מאוד נחמד ומיוחד לחלוף ליד הבקתות הישנות בדרך לבדיקת הרשתות.

In addition to the birds, also some other interesting species of bats and moths were caught. Every day, tens of moths were waiting for us in the nets for the first checking round. When we were lucky, also a bat was waiting for us, most likely because of an unsuccessful attempt to eat the insects in the nest. Two times we had an unidentified small bat. On the third time I was already experienced enough to bring with me a camera to the first check. You could expect that "Murphy" will get involved and there will be nothing that day. Against all pessimists, there was a very cool bat- Brown Long-eared Bat Plecotus auritus.

נוסף על הציפורים, נלכדו גם כמה מינים מעניינים של עטלפים ועשים. מידי בוקר, בסיבוב הראשון, המתינו לנו ברשת עשרות רבות של עשים ממספר מינים. הנפוץ מביניהם היה גם היפה ביותר ולו עיניים גדולות וגוון ורוד המסתתר עד שהוא פורש את כנפיו. במקרים בהם היה לנו מזל, מצאנו גם עטלף. ביומיים הראשונים לא היה לי כל כלי תיעוד (היינו, מצלמה) אך בבוקר השלישי כבר השכלתי לקחת את מצלמתו של אחד המתנדבים. בניגוד לכל חוקי מרפי, גם כשהייתה ברשותי מצלמה נלכד עטלף והוא אף המרשים מכולם- אוזנן חום (בתרגום חופשי) Brown Long-eared Bat Plecotus auritus.

This camp is also working as a field-hospital for injured or juvenile birds that were brought by people (mostly because they try to help fledglings that are waiting for their parents without any need for help; but once they were brought to the ranger there is no option to relocate their family). One of the birds we fed was a Hooded Crow Corvus cornix chick. It was a very playful bird and once, when Robi gave it a coin to play with, the bird seemed to take it away to the other side of the garden. Apparently, it was not the first time it had played with a coin! It had a privet treasure in the grass, covered with dry cut grass. For all of us it was the first time to see a Crow hiding shiny things. It was very interesting that there was only money in and most likely the bird has other hides for other things. Few hours later the treasure hole was empty. The Crow realized we know where it is and moved it away. I wonder what will happen if all people will be as intelligent as birds!  

גם תחנת טיבוע זו פועלת כבית חולים-שדה לטובת כל מיני ציפורים פצועות וגוזלים שנאספו (לרוב שלא לצורך על ידי אנשים שהתבלבלו לחשוב כי הגוזלים הממתינים לארוחה מהוריהם בעצם זקוקים לעזרה אך מרגע שהובאו לפקח האזורי ומחלוף כמה שעות הסיכוי למצוא שוב את משפחתם קטן מידי). בין היתר, טיפלנו בעורב צעיר וסקרן שנהנה מאוד מכל טיפת תשומת לב ומשחק. כאשר נתן לו רובי מטבע העורב מיהר לקחתו לצד השני של הגינה. שם, הבחין רובי, הוא הטמין אותו בחור בדשא. בדיקה קצרה העלתה כי מדובר במטמון של ממש. העורב שלנו אסף אי אלו מטבעות והטמין אותם בחור בדשא אותו כיסה בשאריות דשא יבש. כמה שעות מאוחר יותר החור היה ריק ונראה שהעורב הסיק שמצאנו את מטמונו והעביר את כל מטבעותיו למקום חדש. הפעם, כשנתנו לו מטבע הוא לא מיהר להטמינו אלא לאחר שכבר לא היינו באזור לראות היכן הוא אוגר מטבעותיו. לרובנו הייתה זו הפעם הראשונה לראות כי עורבים אכן אוספים דברים נוצצים ואף ממיינים אותם לסוגיהם.  אני תוהה מה היה קורה אילו כל בני האדם היו חכמים כציפורים!

I have to end this post with an apology and to thank deeply my one and only Serbian friend- Csipak Ármin. Last week my camera broke completely and since than, I'm photographing much worse pictures than the usual (and from the first place, I'm not a professional photographer…) so I'm sorry for the lower quality of documentation.

On the other hand, I thank a lot to Armin for landing me his camera during my whole period at Ócsa. It wouldn't have been the same without this great help!

אני נאלצת לסיים פוסט זה בהתנצלות בליווי תודה. מצלמתי היקרה יצאה למסע לעבר מעבדת תיקונים (בליווי אישי של עדי אבנרי היקרה) ואני נותרתי חסרת כל אמצעי תיעוד ברמה סבירה. אי לכך הרבה מאוד מן התמונות הנדרשות לא צולמו ואלו שהובאו כאן הן ברמה נמוכה מהרגיל (ואני איני צלמת מלכתחילה). עם זאת, אני מאוד מודה לחברי הסרבי הראשון והיחיד- ארמין צ'יפאק על שהלווה לי את מצלמתו לכל אורך שהותי באוצ'ה.

The Hungarians are great funds of culture. Because of that, in almost every third village they have a museum; Palinka museum!

In these museums you can see how they produce their local alcoholic drink out of different fruits (with 40-70 percents of alcohol) and even try some of the local products.

ההונגרים הם חובבי תרבות מושבעים. מאחר שכך, בכל כפר שלישי בערך ישנו מוזיאון; מוזיאון פאלינקה! במוזיאונים הללו ניתן לראות כיצד הם מייצרים את המשקה האלכוהולי הלאומי ממיטב הפירות (עם 40 עד 70 אחוזי אלכוהול) ואף לטעום חלק מהתוצרים של המוזיאון.
